Still dreaming

.
Since Carly started toddling around, she has loved to go to the pet store. There was a little step stool by the rodents that was used by the employees to reach the upper containers. I can see my sweet 2 year old pull that stool over, sit down, and make herself at home. When she was sitting, the lower row of glass terrariums was right at eye level. It was years before she realized that those rodents were for sale and people actually took them home. To her it must have been like the zoo. In fact, I think she took MamMam and Grandaddy to visit once. We still go occasionally, by her request.
.
Today we were out running errands and Kenny wanted to run in to look for something for gabby. Carly thought it was the best errand we ran all morning! They had done some remodeling and there are new rodent displays. Now they are up at eye level which makes more sense for adults (it would not have been the same for my toddler). Carly is fully aware now that those rats, mice, hamsters, guinea pigs go home with people. And, although she still asks she knows they are NOT coming to this home. That doesn't stop her from thinking that watching them is some of the most fun you can have!

What a cute story of little Carly!

Whitney loves to go to the pet store too, but I don't so we don't get there very often. She'd love to bring home a hamster or something, and though I'm not opposed to them in theory (I think they're cute too), I am opposed to the pooping, cage care, smells and so on.

Oh, I hate pet stores. They make me so sad. All those animals begging for a good home. I want to bring them all home. I ran into Petco in Json a few weeks ago to pick up a flea collar for Spunk and they had rearranged the store and I ran into the dogs and cats in cages and almost cried. I hate seeing them looking through those glass walls ... how sad.

But a rodent is a rodent- why not just go outside and catch a chipmunk.

Which reminds me of that time I saw the pet squirrel in your garage and almost had a heart attack. That was pretty funny!!

That is a precious story indeed. Maybe one day y'all will give in and let her have a "rodent". :)

I hope you are enjoying your beautiful weekend.

our pet store doesn't have dogs and cats which does make me sad...we just have fish, reptiles, and Carly's favorite, rodents

IT'S NOT LIKE YOU CAN WALK IT ON A LEASH. I'M NOT SURE IF THEY HAVE PERSONALITIES. I FEEL LIKE I'M ON A WHEEL RUNNING, JUST
LIKE THEY HAVE IN THEIR CAGES.

Your Carly soulds like a cutie! I can just imagine her pulling that stool up and sitting their watching!
We had to put our dogs down a couple of months ago, so as we wouldn't have considered any sort of rodent before, we will consider it over another dog for now.
